Global warming is the progressive increase in the temperature of the Earth’s atmosphere. The surface temperature of the planet has increased by around 2 degrees Fahrenheit over the past century.  Our glaciers are melting quickly, sea levels are rising and there are intense heat waves!
These Climatic changes may have a negative influence on the health of the plants and animals that inhabit the planet.

Why is the Earth warming up and who is responsible?

The earth is warming up because of greenhouse gases that do not allow the Sun’s rays which penetrate the atmosphere, to reflect back into space. The blanket of greenhouse gases traps this heat leading to increased temperatures.

We are responsible for the emission of greenhouse gases such carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, water vapor, methane, and nitrous oxide which result from burning the fossils. We depend on fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas. And As the human population increases demand for fossil fuels also increases.

You must be wondering how fashion is related to the greenhouse effect. Surprisingly, fashion industry is responsible for 10% of annual global carbon emissions, more than all international flights and maritime shipping combined.

Fashion brands rely on fossil fuel based fabrics including polyester, polypropylene, acrylic, elastane, and others which account for around two-thirds of all textile fibers. According to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, CO2 emissions for synthetic clothing are six times higher than cotton. It also talks about other environmental horrors, including oil spills, methane emissions, water, and air pollution, and so on which are particularly harmful for people working in making of synthetic fibres.

Shifting to plant-based, low- carbon natural fibres such as hemp or organic cotton, can significantly reduce emissions and dependence on fossil fuels.

Anokha Bandhan is proud to be a low- carbon brand, which chooses not to use fossil – fuel based fabrics. Our versatile designs are crafted using certified natural fibres only. We are also promoting use of recycled cotton.
At Anokha Bandhan we put our best foot forward in order to make the best of natural fabrics that match your personality, are eternal and help the environment.
