I am made from infusion of aloe vera “capsules” in cotton. These microscopic, airtight and waterproof
capsules open to release a gel when the fabric is touched or rubbed – every time it is worn.

I am a plant-based material made from regenerated cellulose fibres from trees such as pine, bamboo and
eucalyptus which are sourced from the forests that are FSC certified. It means that the wood used for my
production does not lead to deforestation, has preserved biodiversity and safeguards indigenous people’s
rights.

I am made from stalks of hemp crop. The stalks of the hemp plant consist of two layers: The outer layer of
the Cannabis sativa stalk formed from rope-like bast fibres, is used for my production and the inner layer
is commonly used for fuel, building materials, and animal bedding
Fibre yield of hemp per hectare is twice that of the cotton plant.

I am made from the stems of bamboo which has been declared a grass under the India Forest Act (The Hindu,
23rd November 2017). Just like grass, bamboo’s ripe stems are harvested so that new onescan grow.
These harvested woody stems and leaves are treated to generate a mushy mass of fibers which is diligently
spun into yarn.I am thus born.

I am made from the stem of the banana tree. These stems are the agricultural waste left behind after the
banana fruit is harvested. Various methods are used to extract fibre from the stem which is then spun into a
yarn. I am then woven into fabric from this yarn.

I am made from orange peel! My birth process was discovered by Adriana Santanocito – a fashion design
student in Milan – along with Enrica Arena, an International Communication and Cooperation student, with the
support of the Polytechnic University of Milan.
They extracted cellulose from citrus waste, made fibre, spun it and weaved me into an innovative silk-like,
bio-degradable fibre.

I am made from protein found in the hulls of soybeans. As I am produced by the by-product of soybean, I am
touted as eco-friendly fabric with lesser carbon footprint compared to my peers like cotton, nylon,
polyester.
The great Henry Ford of Ford Motors fame is credited with inventing me. He first modelled a soy necktie on
his 78th birthday.
